It was a tragedy for the Poles in the first match of Euro 2025 ! The U-21 national team lost to Georgia 1:2 after a goal conceded in the 93rd minute. Vasilios Gordeziani became the hero of the Georgians. After the first half, the White and Reds could talk about a lot of bad luck after their two shots stopped on the post. And the lack of luck was emphasized by coach Adam Majewski right after the match.
- I think we were well prepared tactically for this match, a lot of it was confirmed. I congratulate the Georgian team on their victory, even in such fortunate circumstances. I think it is not a fair result. Georgia, just like in recent tournaments, won the first match at the tournament, not necessarily being the better team - he admitted directly.
– Mariusz Fornalczyk couldn’t handle the match physically, he asked for a change and that’s why this decision was made – he explained the change of our best representative in this match.
Adam Majewski did not hide it. He has a grudge against footballers for that- Obviously, when you lose, it seems that everything is done wrong. I have no reservations about the approach to the match, tactical assumptions. I told the players that in the first match, it is not always the better team that wins, but the more focused one. And that was missing in the end. And we had more opportunities - admitted the coach of the Polish national team under 21.
– There was the impression that we could have won this match, but we conceded a goal in bizarre circumstances. And then we could have equalized, but Michał Rakoczy wasted the opportunity. We didn't use our chances – Majewski said.
- There is no hiding the fact that the result is very unfavourable. The scale of difficulties is increasing. It will not be easy, we are aware of that. I warned that Georgia is not a weak team, and it has been confirmed. We have to fight in the upcoming matches and that is what we are focused on - he said before the matches with Portugal and France.
– This match wasn't that bad, but we didn't use our chances. We should have been leading. The players aren't happy, but we have to keep fighting.
